Here is a news story regarding the injuries to William Joplin from over the weekend...
Columbia men shot in after-hours party
By T.J. GREANEY of the Tribune’s staff Published on columbiatribune.com Monday, October 20, 2008 Two Columbia men were injured when shots rang out early Sunday in a metal building in Callaway County near the Interstate 70 exit at Millersburg where 300 to 400 people had gathered for an after-hours party.
Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said the shootings started at 3:20 a.m. Sunday outside the establishment known as “The Stage” at 1714 Lindbergh Drive and continued inside.
Jimmy Springer, 30, of Columbia was shot in the abdomen and leg, and William Joplin, 30, of Columbia was shot in the thigh, Crane said. Both men were transported to University Hospital and are expected to recover.
Crane said his deputies have interviewed both victims and are pursuing leads relating to “persons of interest” in the case.
It is unknown what the motive of the shootings were or even whether either of the men was an intended target. Police believe at least two weapons were involved based on shell casings recovered from the scene.
The sheriff’s department has not received cooperation from many in the crowd, Crane said.
“As you can imagine, a lot of people claim to have seen nothing,” he said.
